Even a very superficial analysis of news over the last few decades shows that there is a constant series of crises.  Currently we hear about the energy crisis, the terrorist threat, methane addiction crisis, and devastation caused by increasing severity of weather events.  In the recent past we had the nuclear war, nuclear arms proliferation and biological weapons threats and a wide range of crises in health care, education, welfare, and social security.  Looking just at the past threats we can say that they did not materialize or come to pass to the extent of the doomsayers.  Is this because we have been extremely successful at adverting crises or were they all just a state-of-fear supported by media and others who benefit?

A theory of society should be able to provide a better understanding of each such threat.
