The entire first part of the http://www.complexs.com web site is devoted to describing the characteristics of optimal achieving organizations.  There are many books, workshops, and articles that tell us what we must do in order to achieve what we want.  I am not aware of a single quantitative assessment of what really matters.  Is it really possible that all of these writers are correct and the list of critical factors runs into the hundreds? Of course not.  Is there a way to selected out a small number of things that are critical? The answer is yes, and I have listed the items in Section 1 of this text.  But, Section 1 by itself is no better or worse than any other text of what matters most.  Only by understanding the theory and the simulations can one judge if they are more meaningful than anyone of the other hundreds of such lists.
