Expectancy theory postulates that persons will perform according to the outcome (reward) they expect to obtain.  Management therefore should engage in the activity of matching organizational goals to employees' desires.  Employees can be coached, guided, and supported to increase their skills to increase the effort-to-performance expectancy.
