In the following pages I consider the potential for describing memes with the tools of population dynamics.  We will see that beyond the observation that memes can follow the dynamics of the spread of a virus there appears to be little direct value in this approach.  It is, however, worth the effort to see why describing memes via the equations population dynamics provides little in the way of a forecasting capability.
